MSU Students and Faculty Explore Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine

On the afternoon of March 6, 2025, Jaseng Medical Academy was honored to host students and faculty from Michigan State University (MSU). The group, consisting of 13 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Human Resources and Labor Relations, accompanied by faculty member Sung Soo Chung, visited the Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine and Jaseng Medi Bio Center. Their visit included exploring traditional herbal medicine formulations, rigorous quality control processes, and hands-on clinical demonstrations such as acupuncture and Motion Style Acupuncture Treatment (MSAT).

Discovering Jaseng's Legacy at JS Museum

The afternoon began at Jaseng Medi Bio Center, where students and faculty were warmly welcomed by Dr. Me-Riong Kim from Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine. Dr. Me-Riong Kim provided an engaging overview of Jaseng's innovative approach to healthcare, emphasizing its non-surgical treatments and integrative medical philosophy.

Following this introduction, the students toured the JS Museum, which vividly illustrate the history, philosophy, and evolution of Jaseng's medical practices. The museum highlighted key milestones in Jaseng's development, including treatment methodology advancements, significant achievements, and its expanding global presence.

Herbal Medicine Experience at
Jaseng Medi Bio Center

After the museum tour, the students explored Jaseng Medi Bio Center, the largest herbal medicine dispensaries in Korea.
Here, students gained extensive insights into herbal medicine production processes, from rigorous quality control (QC) protocols that ensure purity, consistency, and the effectiveness, to advanced methods of herb storage and management.
Also, students observed how herbs are meticulously selected based on quality standards, processed carefully to retain therapeutic properties, and blended to create customized prescriptions tailored specifically to individual patient needs.

Through this facility tour, students gained a deeper overall understanding of Korean Medicine and the careful attention involved in its preparation. Several students expressed how impressed they were by the facility's cleanliness, organized processes, and rigorous control measures.

Following with the tour at the Jaseng Medi Bio Center, the students also participated in a tasting session of herbal medicines, gaining firsthand experience with the herbal formulations regularly prescribed to patients.

Clinical Insights at Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine

Next, the group visited Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine in Gangnam, the main branch recognized for specialized non-surgical spine and joint treatments. Upon arrival, students attended a detailed presentation about the hospital's integrative treatments, innovative therapeutic methods, and patient care protocols.

KMD Royer from the International Clinic warmly welcomed the group and facilitated an insightful Q&A session. Students visited treatment rooms to observe patient care firsthand, including real-time demonstrations of acupuncture and pharmacopuncture.
In the MSAT room, students eagerly volunteered to experience acupuncture and Motion Style Acupuncture Treatment (MSAT).
They showed great enthusiasm, actively participating and expressing excitement about gaining a direct understanding of the immediate therapeutic benefits of these treatments. Many students shared positive feedback on this unique hands-on experience, identifying it as a memorable highlight.

Active Engagement and Enthusiasm

Throughout their visit, MSU students demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm, maintaining attentive and inquisitive attitudes. They consistently took detailed notes, engaged deeply with faculty and clinicians, and asked insightful questions. Their curiosity about integrative healthcare practices and practical applications created a dynamic and enriching atmosphere. Faculty member Sung Soo Chung praised the balanced program structure, noting its clear and comprehensive demonstration of our integrative approach.

The visit enhanced international understanding of Korean Medicine and facilitated valuable academic dialogue. Jaseng Medical Academy greatly appreciates such exchanges and looks forward to future collaborations with students interested in Integrative Medicine.
